Pool renovation - the saga continues

Why do I do it? Leave things until the last minute, that is. Life has been insanely busy this last year, but of course, trying to organise the refurb of our pool in the lead-up to Christmas is nothing short of crazy. That's just how we roll here I guess, but next time, please remind me to tackle something like this at a more sensible time...namely in the middle of winter perhaps?First point of

Pool party anyone?

And so it begins....the renovation of our pool, that is! Our pool has been looking more like a swamp than an oasis of late, and that's because it's way overdue for a complete overhaul. And after the recent floods we've had here, we had the added problem of dirt and debris washing in from the back yard. I will post some revolting before pics once it's all nice and pretty again, but as it's just

Frankie Magazine's 'Spaces'

While tearing through my local shopping centre yesterday, I popped in to Borders and managed to find this gorgeous book. 'Spaces' is frankie magazine's new project. According to frankie, "Spaces is a collection of eclectic interiors from around world. This large-format mag explores the homes, studios, shops and cafes of graphic designers, photographers, vintage collectors and shop owners. With a

Saturation point

I've had these images saved in my file for some time now, but I've only recently discovered that the creative genius behind the lens is photographer Chris Court. It stands to reason that his images are full of texture and infused with rich, saturated colour - he is, after all, the brother of uber-stylist Sibella Court. Bohemian with a twist - I like it.I'm in love with this office -

Hamptons Style Mark III

Before I start today's post, a little snake update: unfortunately, our friend has disappeared. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy to see him gone, I just hope it's a permanent move on his part. And unless we know exactly where he retreats to, the snake catcher can't come and remove him. Fingers crossed he's packed his bags, never to return! Now that the excitement of the past few days has died

A not-so-welcome visitor

Those of you who follow me on Facebook will already know this, but my plans for today's post have been thrown into disarray by a unexpected and totally unwelcome visitor. Last week, we met for what I hoped to be the first and last time, but alas - that wasn't the case. Here in Brisbane, particularly in acreage areas like ours, snakes are an unfortunate part of life. I have a healthy respect for

Hamptons Style Mark II

As a follow up to yesterday's post, I thought you might like a little addition to the debate. This house is another Hamptons-inspired take on Queensland living, so let's take a tour and see what you think.realestate.com.auNow, for those eagle-eyed readers out there (Jenny!) you've probably realised this home bears a remarkable similarity to the one I featured yesterday - and that's because they

A big thank you to Anne from Annechovie

I'd like to send a big thank you to the lovely Anne, from one of my favourite blogs, Annechovie. Anne was kind enough to include me in her 'Artist's Portrait' series last week, and she is not only a wonderful artist, but is also a real sweetheart. Anne is an extremely talented artist, and I'm a huge fan of her work - which was featured in none other than the latest Nancy Meyers film, 'It's

Hamptons style comes to Brisbane

I've had this house saved in my files for a while now, and it's a lovely example of what you get when you combine Hamptons style with traditional Queenslander architecture. love the outdoor living areaNow, it just so happens that this home is on the market again. The new owners' style is quite a bit different to that of the original owners:So, what's the verdict - do you like the original

Plantation Shutters - the solution to my design dilemma?

Morning stylemeisters, I have a favour to ask - I need some unbiased and honest feedback from you! I have a little dilemma that I've been mulling over for quite a while now, and I think I've come up with a solution, but you guys have so many fabulous ideas I want to run it by you first. On the back wall of my kitchen, the previous owners have left a cutout between it and the formal living area.

A thank you update

I must add another thank you to my list this week. Paddy Hintz is a journalist at The Courier Mail newspaper here in Brisbane, and also writes a blog called Shop Smart. It just so happens that Paddy found me via Kerry, and we got to chatting about blogging, facebook and the like. Well, she was kind enough to post about my sale on her blog today, so I'd like to add a big thank you to her as

A big Thank You!

Wow, what a great week! I've been lucky enough to have some wonderful blog friends mention Driftwood Interiors over the past few days, and a thank you or three is definitely in order.Firstly, the lovely Abby from Two Little Dicky Birds kicked off her 'Blogs that Inspire' series with a lovely mention of my blog. Not only that, but she also put together a photo montage of some of my paintings.

I've been a little busy....

on something rather exciting! I'll reveal all tomorrow, but for now.....you guessed it, a teaser!

Blog friends

One of the best things I've found since starting this blog is meeting so many wonderful people. For the most part, the meeting is 'virtual', but I've also been lucky enough to meet some of my fellow bloggers in person. Yesterday, I was invited to the home of the lovely Jenny of The Five Year Project, and we spent the morning chatting and sharing renovation stories over a cuppa. Jenny is as warm
