Williams Sonoma Inspired Fall Glass Hurricanes

I've started to put out some more fall decor.  I have a small thing for candles.  They can make a space feel more intimate and romantic.I've seen these pretty little things floating around blogland so I decided to make my own.  They are glass hurricanes from Williams Sonoma for $68 plus the glass sleeve for $16.   Don't think that is gonna happen on my budget.I gathered my supplies:glass vase

Cabinet Transformations

I told you that we want to stain the kitchen cabinets dark.  I mentioned to my husband that Home Depot carries a cabinet painting kit called Cabinet Transformations.  The kit includes everything you need to change the color of your cabinets WITHOUT SANDING!  So we made our weekly trip to the local Depot and got our kit.  Since the kitchen will be such a large project, we decided to try it out on

A Red Front Door

The outside of our home is a combination of brick and siding.  We don't have any shutters so the door and the trim are the pieces that are easily accessible to color changes.  The siding is a beige, the trim is green, and the door is blue.  When we first moved in, I loved the brick but the rest of the house kind of faded into the background.  I knew the exterior could look better with a change

Fall Wreath

Since the weather is starting to change, I decided to slowly start adding fall decor.  I've started with my front door.  I found a grape vine wreath at the thrift store and ripped all the old decor off.  It was horrible.  I should have taken a before pic.  I added some faux leaves, gourds, pumpkins, and berries from the dollar store.Love it.  I think it looks a lot like the Pottery Barn Harvest

Bye Bye Brass

Our home is only 4 years old so it stumps me that the builder used brass light fixtures on the outside.  The doorknobs and light fixtures in the house are either nickel, chrome, or white.  Since we moved in, I have hated the brass lights outside.  I think it ages the home a bit, despite the modern exterior.Notice the metal pieces on the garage door are black.  Total clash with the brass right?

Sweet Girl's Room: Name Art

Ever since my daughter was born I wanted her name on the wall but never got around to it.  This was my chance since I was starting from a clean slate.  I decided over her bed would be the perfect spot.I bought some white letters from Hobby Lobby (I think I'm in that place every week).  I was just going to hang them as is but I thought I would add some more colors to tie in the rest of the room.

Sweet Girl's Room: No Sew Pillows

I knew for the girl's room I wanted to add some throw pillows to give her some more color.  She also likes to sit and lay on them.  I found some fabrics at Hancock that matched her room colors perfectly.  I don't sew (although I intend to buy a sewing machine in the near future), so I go no-sew all the way. You'll need:FabricFusible Web ( I use Stitch Witchery)IronScissors 1 - Measure the pillow

Sweet Girl's Room: Dressing the Window

My daughter's room has one large window that is a focal point.  I was going back and forth between white curtains or some with some color on them. I finally decided that since her green room already so bright, I would try to tone it down a bit. I chose to go with white and hang them high.  I started with white curtains from Target.  I hung them just as they were, but something just wasn't

Sweet Girl's Room: Changing out the Light

My daughter's room has no overhead light.  Ideally I would like to have overhead lighting installed but that's not gonna happen right now.  None of the secondary bedrooms have overhead lighting but have a plug that connects to the light switch.  Her current source of light is a floor lamp from her previous room.  Can't say I like it too much now.  It was beat up during the move and leans a

Sweet Girl's Room: Easy DIY Art

I've started on projects for my daughter's room.  Filling her walls is my first task.  Her room is huge so I have lots of wall to work with.  The entrance wall is long so I know a couple pieces is not gonna cut it and kids art is expensive.  Once again I searched for ideas.  I've seen lots of picture walls in kids rooms so I decided to go with it.  I needed frames, lots of them.  I got an

A Gallery Wall

So after the painting, nailing, and adjusting of pictures, I'm done with my gallery wall.  Well finished for now.  I'll add more pictures in the future but at the moment I'm satisfied.  Who knows, things could be totally different tomorrow.  I tend to walk by things and change them on impulse. In the daytime:And at night:This was a blank wall between the entry foyer and main living area downstairs

My Pretty Little Lamp

So I've been on a thrifting kick and have come across some really good deals.  I've wanted a new lamp so I knew going to a thrift store would give me some budget friendly options. On this day I went to a store I happened to find on an internet search.  I pulled up to the building kind of skeptical because it was smaller, but I went inside anyway.  I had a very good first impression.  I searched

Outside Looking In

Ok, so I know many of you have that nice little window pane on the side of your front door.I love that it lets the light in on nice days, but I don't like that people standing on your doorstep can see right in.  I wanted a solution to this problem.  I saw some nice window decals at Home Depot but I wasn't really liking any of the styles they had.Searching through some blogs, I found that Thrifty
