Sweet Girl's Room: Easy DIY Art

I've started on projects for my daughter's room.  Filling her walls is my first task.  Her room is huge so I have lots of wall to work with.  The entrance wall is long so I know a couple pieces is not gonna cut it and kids art is expensive.  Once again I searched for ideas.  I've seen lots of picture walls in kids rooms so I decided to go with it.  I needed frames, lots of them.  I got an

No going back now.

Smitten

Does it get much better? I think not.la cornueIf you're as besotted as I am, you can choose from one of twenty five standard colours, or maybe have one of the La Cornue artisans create something just for you. Oh, and did I mention they'll also colour-coordinate your other appliances too? All the good stuff here.

Curiosity Shop

It probably comes as no surprise that I love vintage books. My favourites are those on natural history, and I love scouring dusty old bookshops for these treasures. And I guess it's a natural progression that some of my favourite painting subjects come from nature. I'm preparing for a solo exhibition later this year (very exciting! I'll share all the deets soon) and now that I'm almost rid of

Sweet Girl's Room

So I thought I would share with you what my daughter's room looks like right now.  It has the plain, boring, builder grade beige walls and no character.  Right now all the furniture is laid out around the outside of the room to give her room to play in the center.  I've been trying to re-arrange furniture in my head to see if this is the best possible layout for her.Her bedding is from our

Sweet Girl's Room: Inspiration

The next room on my To Do List is my daughter's room.  She just turned 3 so she's over the baby stage but not yet ready for big girl decor.  I want her room to be fun, colorful, and all about what she is.  She is such a free spirit and very independent. Her favorite color is green so I think I'm going with that as the wall color.  I don't really want a theme but more incorporate items that reflect

Hello Friend Party

I'm participating in Sassy Sites "Hello Friend Party".  It'll be fun getting to know some of my fellow bloggers and see what projects you have going on.  Why did you decide to start blogging?  I started blogging because I was looking for decorating ideas for my new home and came across so many good decorating blogs.  I decided it would be a fun way for my friends and others to see what I was up

House Tour: Powder Room

As you enter the house and turn right is our powder room.  I still haven't figured out why it's called that.  This room was the most complete first.  Probably because it's smaller and I didn't have as many walls to fill or accessories to buy.  The room started out pretty bland.  This is how it looked before when we moved in.  Standard builder's beige.  And no there were no blinds so that is the

Thank You!

Feels so good to see that Stephanie Lynn from Under the Table and Dreaming featured my Contact Paper Window Decal project.  Thanks for the recognition from her and many of you that have left nice comments about it.

Red Letter Words

So I was searching the net for some art work for my naked walls.  I came across Red Letter Words.  They have faith based artwork that is so inspirational.  They have a gallery of pre-designed art and you can even make custom prints. Here are a couple of my favorites: These would look great with some photos on a gallery wall.  Hmmmm.  I see a project in my future.

Black + White

I've been laid low with the dreaded lurgy for the past couple of weeks, which, as well as being totally inconvenient, has meant that I've had little energy for anything other than coughing and spluttering (and, if you ask the clan, they'd probably add whingeing as well). But I digress. One good thing that's come from my convalescence is that I managed to find the designer behind a room I've had

House Tour: Family Room

We've been here a few months now and things are progressing.  I didn't want to start the tour until the rooms were done but I don't think a room will ever be completely done.Let's start with the family room.  This is the hub of the house and where everyone will congregate.  It had to be the first room done since this is what our guests will see. Here are some before and after pics:Looking into

A Gallery Wall

So after the painting, nailing, and adjusting of pictures, I'm done with my gallery wall.  Well finished for now.  I'll add more pictures in the future but at the moment I'm satisfied.  Who knows, things could be totally different tomorrow.  I tend to walk by things and change them on impulse. In the daytime:And at night:This was a blank wall between the entry foyer and main living area downstairs

Hanging and Patching...

I've been busy positioning, hammering, and patching this wall all week.  Can't wait to show you what I've been working on.This project does include my little lamp!

Barnstormers

Ever since I saw this photo of Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne's new digs in Architectural Digest....I've been plotting how to incorporate some barn doors into my house. These are to.die.for. The colour, the detail, the exposed industrial runners....perfection. Here are a few more examples I've found..loving these chalkboard versions - genius crisp and clean or a little more tailoredperfect for the home

Adding some color

So this weekend I was busy painting.  Seems like the story of my life.  The previous owners changed nothing about this home, not even a speck of paint.  So we are left to transform everything ourselves. We have a hallway/alcove that opens up to the main living area downstairs.  I have an idea for a project but I knew painting would be my first step. Here's the before.  Boring builder beige. So after

One gorgeous home three ways...well almost

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you may remember this post, when I featured one of my favourite houses. It was originally built by artist Marcella Kaspar and her husband, Mark Cooper, and later sold to Maggie Tabberer. Well, Marcella and Mark have since built another home, with a similar floorplan, but this time they decided to change things up a little, and the results are just

My Pretty Little Lamp

So I've been on a thrifting kick and have come across some really good deals.  I've wanted a new lamp so I knew going to a thrift store would give me some budget friendly options. On this day I went to a store I happened to find on an internet search.  I pulled up to the building kind of skeptical because it was smaller, but I went inside anyway.  I had a very good first impression.  I searched
