Veranda's House of Windsor

I don't know about you, but I can't wait for the official unveiling of Windsor Smith's latest project. Windsor is one of my very favourite designers (and if you know me, that's a big call), and she's really outdone herself here. In conjunction with Veranda magazine, and assisted by a few of her fabulous designer friends, Windsor has designed the most amazing property - complete with designer

Sweet Girl's Room: The Reveal

YAY!!!  It's finally done.  It's taken me a little while but only because some parts of this room had me stumped.  I didn't realize just how much space I had to fill before I started.  My daughter loves it so all the hard work has paid off.We started by painting the wall a fun shade of green.  The color is Japanese Fern by Behr.I found the bedding at Target and used the comforter as my color

Sweet Girl's Room: Name Art

Ever since my daughter was born I wanted her name on the wall but never got around to it.  This was my chance since I was starting from a clean slate.  I decided over her bed would be the perfect spot.I bought some white letters from Hobby Lobby (I think I'm in that place every week).  I was just going to hang them as is but I thought I would add some more colors to tie in the rest of the room.

House of Turquoise feature

House of Turquoise is one of my daily must-reads. Without fail, Erin manages to find the most spectacular homes from around the world, and they all feature one of my very favourite colours - turquoise. So you can imagine my excitement this morning when I woke to find her latest post:My Sea Fan Series in Turquoiseas seen in the Stately Homes by the Sea Designer Show Houseroom designed by the very

Have You Seen It?

So I got the early Fall edition Pottery Barn catalog the other day and I am lovin what I see.  So many calming blues and greens.  And just the right accessories.  I'll take this mirror, coffee table, pillows...ok, everything pictured please. Check out this bedding.  Love it!  I could sleep for days here.I'm leaning more towards cooler colors in decorating our new home.  I was more of a red kind

Spring it on

It's cold and rainy here in Brisbane this morning, and just between you and me, I'm completely over winter. So, if I can't hurry Spring, I can at least indulge in a little virtual daydreaming, courtesy of Sig Bergamin.I feel better already.....

Are You Doing It Yet?

I'm talking about Olioboard.  What were you thinking?  It's a fun way to design rooms without the fuss of moving furniture, buying fabric, and patching walls.  When I started the itch for interior design, I was noticing designers were making these layouts with all the room pieces included.  I started trying to make them on my own using powerpoint.  It wasn't quite as nice as the boards I was

I Was Featured

Yay!  Stephanie Lynn over at Under the Table and Dreaming featured me again. This time it was my Family Room Tour.  I'm working on that space as we speak.  Let me just be honest, I'm working on every room in the house right now.

Sweet Girl's Room: No Sew Pillows

I knew for the girl's room I wanted to add some throw pillows to give her some more color.  She also likes to sit and lay on them.  I found some fabrics at Hancock that matched her room colors perfectly.  I don't sew (although I intend to buy a sewing machine in the near future), so I go no-sew all the way. You'll need:FabricFusible Web ( I use Stitch Witchery)IronScissors 1 - Measure the pillow

Shut.The.Front.Door

I think the entrance to a home is really important - it can say a lot about the people who live there. Whether it sports a fire-engine red door, a gated courtyard, a shot of bright colour....first impressions count. While we work on our house plans, I'm thinking of giving our existing door a little makeover. It's solid timber, with glass sidelights, but it's really boring and badly in need of a

A Fabric Field Trip

Since the girl's room is almost finish, I wanted to venture away from that for a second.  But believe me I have been working very hard to get this room done.  I'll show you when I'm done, I promise. I have been thinking about curtains for the formal living and dining room and maybe some new throw pillows for the family room.  I had been to Hancock and Joanns but none of those fabrics spoke to me.

From the sublime, to the...well, you decide

Next time someone tells me to clam up, I'll take them literally. I've always loved the use of giant clam shells in decorating (as long as they're sustainably harvested, of course, or better still, fabulously faux), and I'm thinking I might need to incorporate a few into my design scheme.Anna Spiro often uses shells in her lovely vignettes.....and I love how Stuart Membery's used them for his

A flying visit to Melbourne

I've just spent a few days in Melbourne, visiting the trade shows. It's been a long time between visits, and I'd forgotten what a beautiful city it is. I had my youngest daughter with me as well, and we had a fantastic time, wandering through the laneways and visiting the hundreds of cafes and eateries along the way. Here's a little snippet of our trip...Here she is, leading the way (we were on a

Sweet Girl's Room: Dressing the Window

My daughter's room has one large window that is a focal point.  I was going back and forth between white curtains or some with some color on them. I finally decided that since her green room already so bright, I would try to tone it down a bit. I chose to go with white and hang them high.  I started with white curtains from Target.  I hung them just as they were, but something just wasn't

Sweet Girl's Room: Changing out the Light

My daughter's room has no overhead light.  Ideally I would like to have overhead lighting installed but that's not gonna happen right now.  None of the secondary bedrooms have overhead lighting but have a plug that connects to the light switch.  Her current source of light is a floor lamp from her previous room.  Can't say I like it too much now.  It was beat up during the move and leans a

The big picture

The plan for our new place is starting to come together. The idea is to bring a little bit of Palm Beach to Brisbane, throw in some Hamptons style, a touch of traditional Queenslander...basically, you could throw all the houses I've blogged about into a blender, and the result would be close to perfect. I really like the details of this Palm Beach beauty, which was featured in Home Beautiful

Pimp my pic

As soon as I finished my latest painting, I couldn't help myself...these rooms were ripe for the picking.love your work Nate, hope you don't mind that I've done a little redecorating for you. I thought my latest 'Petit Papillon' would work perfectly in your living room. 'The Monarchist'watercolour on paper210mm x 297mm (8" x 11")prints for sale now in my Etsy store...and ok, so maybe I couldn't
