Williams Sonoma Inspired Fall Glass Hurricanes

I've started to put out some more fall decor.  I have a small thing for candles.  They can make a space feel more intimate and romantic.I've seen these pretty little things floating around blogland so I decided to make my own.  They are glass hurricanes from Williams Sonoma for $68 plus the glass sleeve for $16.   Don't think that is gonna happen on my budget.I gathered my supplies:glass vase

Cabinet Transformations

I told you that we want to stain the kitchen cabinets dark.  I mentioned to my husband that Home Depot carries a cabinet painting kit called Cabinet Transformations.  The kit includes everything you need to change the color of your cabinets WITHOUT SANDING!  So we made our weekly trip to the local Depot and got our kit.  Since the kitchen will be such a large project, we decided to try it out on

Peace out

It's school holidays in this part of the world, and I managed to squeeze in a long-overdue trip to the beach last week. It was a gorgeous sunny day on the sunshine coast, with a warm breeze, and lots of seafood for lunch.....doesn't get much better than that.yep, that's the Mr - shy little wallflower that he is :)But back to the coalface now - I have a painting to finish! I'll be back with an

Fall Pinterest Finds

I was hearing about this thing called Pinterest.  What?  How can I try it?  I soon learned upon going onto the site that you had to have an invite.  I sent several requests over a span of a few weeks and still nothing.  So I asked one of my fellow bloggers for an invite and she happily sent me one.  Thanks.  I can't get enough.  You ladies weren't kidding when you said it was addictive.

A blank canvas

You might remember in my last post I mentioned I was about to start on a commission for a lovely client? Well, I thought this might be the perfect time to share a little of how I go about painting a commissioned work - before I forget all about taking pics along the way.here she is...a nice (big) blank canvasMy lovely client, H, spoke to me about creating a painting for a large wall in her

A Red Front Door

The outside of our home is a combination of brick and siding.  We don't have any shutters so the door and the trim are the pieces that are easily accessible to color changes.  The siding is a beige, the trim is green, and the door is blue.  When we first moved in, I loved the brick but the rest of the house kind of faded into the background.  I knew the exterior could look better with a change

Me...An Award?!?

I see all the time bloggers giving each other awards for creativity or cuteness.  How nice I thought.  It'll probably take me some time before someone notices me.  So I received an email the other day nominating little ole' me.  Wow.  Someone really likes me.  She has passed on the Versatile Blogger Award to me.Rules for the Versatile Blogger:1. Thank the person who gave it to you.2. Share 7

Stripe me lucky

Black and white is a classic combo that never goes out of fashion. Throw them together into a stripe, and it's even better. I've been seeing this pic all over the place lately, and it was love at first sight:is this not the most gorgeous storefront ever? It belongs to designer Liz Caan. Perfection.I love black and white awnings. So fresh, yet chic and classic at the same time. And how better to

Fall Wreath

Since the weather is starting to change, I decided to slowly start adding fall decor.  I've started with my front door.  I found a grape vine wreath at the thrift store and ripped all the old decor off.  It was horrible.  I should have taken a before pic.  I added some faux leaves, gourds, pumpkins, and berries from the dollar store.Love it.  I think it looks a lot like the Pottery Barn Harvest

Bye Bye Brass

Our home is only 4 years old so it stumps me that the builder used brass light fixtures on the outside.  The doorknobs and light fixtures in the house are either nickel, chrome, or white.  Since we moved in, I have hated the brass lights outside.  I think it ages the home a bit, despite the modern exterior.Notice the metal pieces on the garage door are black.  Total clash with the brass right?

House Tour: Kitchen

The kitchen has been started.  It has gotten a coat of paint and we bought new stainless appliances when we moved in.  The hardwood floors were not extended into this space.  We weren't really sure how the hardwoods would hold up in the kitchen.  We have plenty of flooring left so finishing this space wouldn't be an issue. There's lots of space in here where the whole family can be in there and

Porchlight Interiors

This month's issue of Home Beautiful magazine is an absolute cracker, and one of the gorgeous homes on show belongs to Hayley Hayes, co-director of Brissie based design firm, Porchlight Interiors. Besides being talented decorators, Hayley and sister Tracey are just lovely, and I was thrilled to see Hayley's beautiful home showcased this month. And to top it off, if you look very closely, you can
